Cultural Heritage is the multifaceted legacy we inherit from the past, live with in the present, and pass on to future generations. It embodies what makes us human while at the same time anchoring us within specific groups and communities. In this spirit, the Austrian Archaeological Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, as the future host of the national node of the Consortium E-RIHS (European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science), welcomes researchers, professionals, and enthusiasts in the field of heritage and archaeological sciences to join the 2025 „Heritage Meets Science“ conference.
The conference is twofold: the first day will introduce E-RIHS ERIC and present an overview of heritage research in Austria at universities, museums, and the Federal Monument Authority, opening the floor to discussion on future perspectives and collaborations at both national and European levels. On the second day, the nine projects funded in the framework of the first call of the Heritage Science Austria funding programme of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (2020) will share their final results, showcasing the transdisciplinary field of Heritage Science, which explores
heritage through its documentation, interpretation, preservation, and management, and provides comprehensive access to art, cultural properties, and archaeological legacy.
When: 6–7 November
Where: at the ÖAW Theatersaal (Sonnenfelsgasse 19, Vienna, 1st District) and online via Zoom
Registration is mandatory for both in-person and virtual attendance.
The conference language: English
